The main argument President Trump is trying to make is that NFL players need to get fired for kneeling during the national anthem. He thinks this demonstration is disrespectful and one of the leading causes of the NFL ratings being so low. The movement was started last year when Colin Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem to protest the racial injustice occurring in our country specifically in law enforcement. Some Americans found this movement offensive to both the flag and soldiers who fought for our country. The stasis that Trump uses in his speech is consequence and action. The consequence of the players “disrespecting” the flag is leading to public outrage mainly from Conservatives. Because of this outrage, the NFL is losing money from certain fans who don’t see eye to eye with Kaepernick’s views. Trump is also urging America to take action by simply not watching the games on television and walking out the stadium if they see a player kneel.

I agree! The stasis is definitely demonstrating consequence because so many incidents have followed Kaepernick's initial protest. This has resulted in many other athletes kneeling for the national anthem, and as you said, has given the NFL a bad reputation. This is a very current issue, so we get to see how everything is handled.
ReplyDeleteI like that you chose a very current and relevant issue. I agree with your chose of stasis theory. I believe what the flag symbolizes and represents to people is an important factor in each sides argument. In the case of Trump I believe he views the flag in a patriotic sense. He sees America as a great country and the flag represents the righteous ideals that our military bravely fights and defenses. In the case of Kaepernick the flag represents a country who has forgotten about it's black citizens. It represents a country who continuously allows racial injustices and blatant discrimination to go unseen and unpunished. I believe each sides' perceptive of what our country is plays an important factor in their argument and what makes it such a controversial topic. I liked reading this analysis, great job!
